What is Scary Meter?

If you've ever wondered just how scary a movie is that you've been wanting to watch, you've come to the right place. Scary Meter ranks horror and thriller movies based not on their quality, but by how scary they are. You'll find four categories used to measure this: SCARY, CREEPY, GORY and JUMPY. Each are independently voted on by users like you with no account-creating or signing-in required.
SCARY
7.0
CREEPY
3.6
GORY
8.2
JUMPY
5.8

User Ratings

To rate, first click on the "Click Here to Rate" grey button below all the rating bars. A Rate Box will appear with the Overall Scary Rating and buttons listed from 1 to 10. From there, simply select the button of your desired rating. Once this is done, another Rate Box will appear below it, allowing you to select whether that movie is Creepy, Gory and Jumpy, as seen in the image below.

You can choose to rate on however many of these categories you'd like, however you can only rate once per cateogry. You can rate for as many movies as you'd like.

Disclaimer

Scary Meter allows Google Analytics to store cookies on your computer upon launching the site. It also stores temporary cookies (HTML DOM sessionStorage) to manage the Cookie Disclaimer and Survey popups. In addition, whenever a user rates a movie, Scary Meter stores and keeps track of that user's IP Address. This is to ensure that a user may only rate once per cateogry per movie, however ratings may be updated for a movie by that user after a 72 hour window has passed. For this reason, a user on a shared Wi-Fi network might notice that they are unable to rate on a movie even if they did not do so since another user on the same network might have already done so within the specified time period. IP Addresses are also stored to keep track of users who frequently violate commenting guidelines.

By using this website, you acknowledge that we at Scary Meter will keep track of your IP Address if you rate and/or comment on a movie, as well permit the use of Google Analyltics cookies.
